About PRISM

Tax preparation tells you what happened. Tax intelligence helps you understand what happens next.

PRISM Tax Intelligence is a modern tax practice built around a simple idea: important tax questions should be understood while there is still time to make a decision.

We provide individual tax preparation, tax planning, projections, and IRS and state notice assistance.

But compliance is only part of the work.

PRISM combines tax expertise with technology to model decisions before they happen—from self-employment and investment income to retirement decisions, Roth conversions, estimated taxes, multi-state matters, and other complex individual tax situations.

The technology doesn’t replace professional judgment. It gives that judgment a better way to see the decision.

A tax practice built to look both directions

The return records the year. The decision happens before it.

Traditional tax preparation is necessarily retrospective. The year happened. Transactions closed. Income was earned. Then the return records the result.

Some of the most valuable tax work happens earlier.

    • Before the move.
    • Before the sale.
    • Before the conversion.
    • Before the business decision.
    • Before December becomes January.

PRISM was built to connect those two sides of tax work: accurate compliance with forward-looking decision support.

The level of support should match the situation

Not every tax year needs the same kind of help.

    • A first job may mean a straightforward W-2 return.
    • A growing freelance business may introduce estimated payments and deductions.
    • A move may create questions across multiple states.
    • Investments can introduce capital gains.
    • Retirement can introduce distributions, Social Security, Medicare considerations, and new planning decisions.
    • Equity compensation can introduce withholding, basis, AMT, and timing questions.

The point is not to make every tax situation complicated. The point is to recognize when the situation has changed.

PRISM is built to meet clients where they are—and go deeper when the facts require it.

    Technology and Decision Intelligence

Technology should make the tax professional more useful—not disappear them.

PRISM’s tax intelligence platform helps structure client facts, applicable tax rules, scenario comparisons, documentation, and the variables driving an outcome.

We use those systems to model and compare tax consequences across important financial decisions.

For complex work, we use structured Decision Records to make the reasoning behind an analysis easier to understand, document, and revisit.

The point isn’t to hand someone another calculator. It’s to help them understand what is changing, why it matters, and what questions deserve attention before they act.

    Preparation and planning

Preparation when you need preparation. Planning when the year deserves another look.

Some clients come to PRISM because they need an individual tax return prepared. Others come because something changed during the year.

A new job. A second income. Self-employment. An investment sale. Retirement income. A move. Equity compensation. A notice.

The service should follow the question—not the other way around. PRISM can begin with the immediate need and expand the analysis only when the situation calls for it.

    Why I built PRISM

A practice where technology improves professional judgment rather than replacing it.

I founded PRISM after working inside both traditional tax practice and financial services.

Those experiences gave me respect for what established professional practices can build: technical knowledge, institutional memory, and long-standing client relationships.

They also clarified what I wanted to build differently.

A practice where technology improves professional judgment rather than replacing it. Where clients can understand the reasoning behind important tax decisions. Where planning happens while decisions can still change. And where preparing the return and understanding the decisions behind it are parts of the same relationship.

    That’s PRISM.

What PRISM is — and what it isn't

A professional tax practice that also builds tax intelligence tools.

PRISM is a professional tax practice providing individual tax preparation and planning services.

Our public tools, Library interactives, and educational materials are designed to help people understand tax concepts and explore how different variables can affect an outcome. They are educational tools, not individualized tax advice or substitutes for a complete return analysis.

When you engage PRISM for professional services, the work is different: your actual facts, documents, tax circumstances, and objectives become part of the analysis.

    That distinction matters.

From a first return to a family's later years, the questions change. PRISM is built to change with them.

    Why trust PRISM

Trust starts with knowing what you're getting.

Tax work involves information people should be able to understand. That includes what work is being done, what assumptions matter, what something costs, and where professional judgment enters the picture.

    Clear scope.

You should know what work PRISM is being engaged to do before the work begins.

A straightforward return should not be turned into an unnecessary planning engagement. A planning question should not be treated as though filing a return automatically answers it.

The scope should match the need.

    Clear pricing.

    Straightforward work stays straightforward.

Tax preparation starts at $175. Tax planning starts at $150.

More involved engagements are scoped according to the facts and work required. Introductory consultations are free.

    Clear reasoning.

A tax result is more useful when the person signing the return understands what drove it.

PRISM explains the relevant facts, assumptions, thresholds, and interactions behind the work whenever they matter.

The goal is not more jargon. It is a clearer answer.

Complexity only when it earns its place.

PRISM has deeper modeling and decision-support capabilities. That does not mean every client needs them.

Sometimes the right answer is a straightforward tax return prepared carefully. Sometimes the facts deserve a projection or a deeper comparison.

The work should become more sophisticated only when the decision requires it.

You shouldn't have to buy complexity to receive careful tax work. And you shouldn't have to outgrow your tax practice when life becomes more complicated. That is the standard PRISM is built around.
